Fashion House Yves Saint Laurent Expands into Film Production

In a surprising move, the Kering-owned French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent has been expanding its activities to include full-fledged film production since 2023. This shift was first announced by the company last year, and since then, Saint Laurent has popped up in the credits of several high-profile titles, such as Jacques Audiard's Emilia Pérez and Paolo Sorrentino's Parthenope.
Veteran costume designer Catherine George, who worked with Saint Laurent on Jim Jarmusch's Golden Lion-winning feature Father Mother Sister Brother, has now shed some light on the fashion house's cinematic collaborations. According to George, Saint Laurent's creative director is a "great film fan and cinephile" who has chosen to work with specific directors, including Jarmusch, Sorrentino, Abel Ferrara, David Cronenberg, and Pedro Almodóvar.
The process of working with Saint Laurent on the costumes for Father Mother Sister Brother was initially "a little time-consuming," as the fashion house was based in Paris while the production was in New York. However, George noted that the quality of the garments produced was "really incredible" due to Saint Laurent's access to the best materials.
Jarmusch's Father Mother Sister Brother, which stars an ensemble cast including Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, and Tom Waits, is set to be released in the U.S. on December 24, 2025, through Mubi.
