Yungblud's Grandmother's White Lie: The Day He Discovered Rod Stewart Wasn't His Grandpa
21 Oct
Summary
- Yungblud's grandmother told him Rod Stewart was his estranged grandfather
- Yungblud found out the truth at age 9 when he saw a Stewart CD
- Stewart later messaged Yungblud on Instagram, calling him "me wee grandson"

In a recent interview, musician Yungblud revealed one of his most formative musical memories - a white lie his grandmother told him that his estranged grandfather was none other than rock legend Rod Stewart. Yungblud has shared this story in various interviews over the years, but now says that Stewart himself is aware of the tale.
According to Yungblud, his maternal grandmother, who raised his mother as a single parent, convinced him from a young age that Stewart was his grandfather. This illusion was shattered when Yungblud was around 9 years old, while shopping with his grandmother. Seeing a Stewart CD at the checkout, Yungblud asked when his "granddad" was coming home, only to have his grandmother's lie exposed as onlookers laughed.
Despite the embarrassment, Yungblud says Stewart later reached out to him on Instagram, simply writing "All right, me wee grandson." Laughing about the banter, Yungblud is currently touring Europe in support of his recent album, Idols, which was released in June. He has a handful of North American shows scheduled for late November, with a more extensive tour planned for 2026.
