26 Jun
Summary
- Jess Walton is the original and longest-running Jill Abbott.
- Recasting occurred due to Walton's availability for story needs.
- Walton's return depends on her future availability.

Jess Walton, the celebrated actress behind Jill Foster Abbott on The Young and the Restless, has seen her role temporarily recast.
Walton has embodied the character for nearly four decades, earning multiple Daytime Emmy Awards. The show's headwriter, Josh Griffith, explained that the recent story required Jill to be on screen, and Walton's availability prevented her from appearing.
This led Griffith and publicist Matt Kane to brainstorm a temporary replacement, selecting Lauren Koslow from Days of Our Lives. Griffith assured viewers that Walton is synonymous with Jill, stating, "She is Jill to the masses."
Looking ahead, Griffith expressed optimism about Walton reprising her role. "We hoped to have many more opportunities for Walton to reprise her role, based on her availability," he shared. Walton's 40th anniversary as Jill is scheduled for June 20, 2027, a milestone the show intends to celebrate.
Jill Abbott holds the distinction of being the longest-running and only original character on The Young and the Restless. The role was initially played by Brenda Dickson in 1973, with several actresses portraying her before Walton took over in 1987. In 2012, Walton transitioned from a contract role to a recurring capacity to balance work and personal life. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
