18 May
Summary
- Mel Brooks' 1974 comedy 'Young Frankenstein' is adapted into a new series.
- Zach Galifianakis, Dolly Wells, and Spencer House will star in the series.
- This is the third recent revival of a Mel Brooks film project.
A new television series based on Mel Brooks' beloved 1974 comedy, 'Young Frankenstein,' has been greenlit for FX and Hulu. This reimagining of the classic film will feature Zach Galifianakis, Dolly Wells, and Spencer House in starring roles, though their specific characters have not yet been detailed.
FX Entertainment President Nick Grad described the project as a "completely original take on the classic story." The original movie starred Gene Wilder as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein and Peter Boyle as his creature, serving as a satire of classic horror films.
The series is created and executive produced by Stefani Robinson, Taika Waititi, and Garrett Basch, with Mel Brooks also executive producing. Robinson penned the script and Waititi directed the inaugural episode.
This venture represents the third recent revival of a Mel Brooks film. Previously, Hulu streamed 'History of the World Part 2,' and Amazon MGM Studios is producing the forthcoming 'Spaceballs: The New One.'
