Acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos has released VISCIN, a new artist's book published by MACK Books. The book features photographs captured on the set of his 2025 feature film, Bugonia. These images offer a standalone narrative, diverging from the film's plot, and explore themes of mystery, illusion, death, and renewal through Lanthimos' signature style.
The physical publication is designed as a sculptural object, utilizing an accordion fold that resembles a film reel. As readers unfold the pages, they experience a visual progression from stark black-and-white photography into vivid color imagery, symbolizing foreboding and rebirth.
This release coincides with a major exhibition in Athens, 'Yorgos Lanthimos: Photographs,' at Onassis Stegi. The exhibition showcases 182 still photographs from the director's diverse photographic work over the past five years. It includes images from his previous books and previously unseen works from the VISCIN series.
