Yash's 'Toxic' Film Faces Lawsuit Over Online Defamation

A Bengaluru civil court issued an ex-parte temporary injunction on August 22, 2026, targeting alleged defamatory content surrounding Yash's film 'Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups.' The order restricts the publication and circulation of false, malicious, or derogatory material concerning the movie. This legal action comes as the film achieved a remarkable box office debut, surpassing Rs 100 crore.

Following the film's successful release, social media buzz indicates that producers are now reportedly issuing legal notices to content creators for their reviews and posts about 'Toxic.' YouTuber Suraj Kumar and others have claimed to have received such notices. These claims, however, remain unverified.

The interim order by the Additional City Civil and Sessions Court on a suit filed by KVN Productions LLP allows for restrictions on material deemed false and defamatory. Crucially, the court's order does not constitute a blanket ban on genuine reviews or criticism. The injunction is set to remain in effect until the next hearing on September 28, 2026.

The court emphasized that a prima facie case favored the plaintiff and that the balance of convenience lay with the production house. If the plaintiff fails to adhere to the court's imposed conditions, the temporary injunction may be vacated. The order also includes a 'John Doe' defendant to address unidentified individuals potentially circulating harmful content.
