Rishab Shetty defends Yash's 'Toxic' as daring experiment

The Kannada film industry is showing strong support for Yash's pan-India release, 'Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups,' which has garnered mixed to negative critical reception. Following earlier endorsements from Upendra and Kichcha Sudeepa, 'Kantara' actor Rishab Shetty has now commended Yash and the film on X, labeling it a "daring experiment" amidst the ongoing criticism.

Shetty expressed admiration for Yash's dedication to his character, stating, "As an artist, when you play a character, you try to bring it to life from the bottom of your heart." He further noted that while the film's plot and characters might deviate from conventional storytelling, this does not invalidate the artistic effort. Shetty emphasized the immense journey from concept to screen, appreciating the conviction behind the portrayal of a powerful man's struggle.

Furthermore, Rishab Shetty applauded Yash for fully embodying a role that demanded a larger-than-life performance, saying, "I could clearly feel that in every single scene." He also conveyed appreciation for Yash's contribution to elevating Kannada cinema on a global scale. The actor concluded his message with best wishes to the producers and director Geetu Mohandas for 'Toxic.'

'Toxic' was among the year's most anticipated films, with its release date shifting from March to June, and finally to August 26. Despite considerable audience expectations, the movie has struggled to make a significant impact, facing criticism from both reviewers and the public, with its box office numbers declining after an initial strong performance. The film, directed by Geetu Mohandas, features Yash as Raya/Ticket, alongside a cast including Nayanthara and Kiara Advani. As of the report, 'Toxic' has collected ₹190.45 crore in India, with a total worldwide gross of ₹254.75 crore.
