Hulu has officially ordered a new series based on The X-Files, with Ryan Coogler spearheading the reimagining. The project features a diverse cast, including Emmy nominees Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler, who will portray two distinct FBI agents.
These agents are assigned to a dormant division dedicated to investigating cases involving unexplained phenomena. Their work leads them to form an unexpected connection. The series is a product of Coogler's exclusive five-year television deal with Disney, Hulu's parent company.
The development for this new iteration of The X-Files has spanned over three years. Original creator Chris Carter had previously confirmed discussions with Coogler about remounting the series with a diverse cast. Proximity Media founders Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian expressed excitement for the new chapter.
Ludwig Göransson, a co-founder of Proximity Media, contributed the score for the pilot episode. The original X-Files, which starred Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, premiered in 1993 and ran for nine seasons, spawning films and a revival.
