The production of "Wuthering Heights" showcases a unique and unsettling set design for Thrushcross Grange, the marital home of Cathy Linton, portrayed by Margot Robbie. Director Emerald Fennell described the hallways as an arterial blood red, intended to be both beguiling and grotesque.
To achieve an uncanny subconscious feeling, production designer Suzie Davies utilized padded panels printed with photographs of Margot Robbie's actual skin, veins, and freckles, overlaid with thin latex. This deliberate choice reflects the Victorian era's fascination with containing nature.
Further enhancing this theme, the library and other spaces are adorned with taxidermied animals and lacquered natural artifacts, symbolizing the containment of nature. This mirrors the novel's core themes, evident in Cathy's restrictive clothing and the overall oppressive atmosphere.
