Hairy Armpits Cut from Wuthering Heights Film

Director Emerald Fennell confirmed that a scene intended to show Margot Robbie with "extremely hairy armpits" was ultimately cut from the film adaptation of Wuthering Heights. Fennell's original vision included this detail to challenge the conventional, often unrealistic, depiction of women in period dramas as completely hairless. She expressed her curiosity about the lack of razors for historical female characters, finding the typical portrayals akin to "hairless like eels."

The scene featuring Robbie's armpit hair did not make it into the final cut. Instead, a different, unconventional scene was included where the character Cathy places her finger into the mouth of a fish submerged in aspic. Fennell explained this choice as an exploration of "being embarrassing" and pushing boundaries, a concept she feels is particularly avoided in contemporary culture.
