"Wordle Game Show Headed to TV Screens Nationwide"

As of October 7th, 2025, the popular daily word game Wordle is set to make the leap from phone screens to television. NBC has announced plans to develop a game show adaptation of the New York Times-owned puzzle, with "Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon attached as a producer.

The pilot episode of the Wordle game show will be hosted by "Today" anchor Savannah Guthrie and filmed in the United Kingdom. The TV adaptation will aim to bring the same addictive gameplay that captivated millions of players worldwide when Wordle first took the internet by storm in the early 2020s.

Wordle, which the Times acquired for a seven-figure sum in 2022, has seen remarkable growth, reaching 5.3 billion plays in 2024. The simple yet challenging five-letter word puzzle, where players have six attempts to guess the daily word, has become a global phenomenon, with players sharing their results on social media.

Fallon's involvement in the project makes sense, as the comedian has built a brand on playing light-hearted games with his late-night guests. During the initial Wordle craze in 2022, Fallon even dedicated a seven-minute segment on "The Tonight Show" to solving a single puzzle.

If the Wordle game show makes it to air, it will join a growing list of Fallon-produced game shows, including "Password," "That's My Jam," and the recent reality series "On Brand." It remains to be seen how the daily puzzle format will translate to a live television format, though Hasbro did release a Wordle board game in 2022.
