Harrelson's Sarajevo: Elvis, LBJ & A Whiskey Toast

Woody Harrelson was honored at the Sarajevo Film Festival, where he participated in a masterclass and received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo award. During a conversation with film critic Neil Young, Harrelson discussed his portrayal of President Lyndon B. Johnson in the 2016 film LBJ, emphasizing the accuracy of the dialogue he delivered.

The acclaimed actor also entertained the audience with his well-known Elvis Presley impersonation, a performance that he credits with inspiring him to try out for a school play. Harrelson recounted how a chance audition, marked by a dramatic nose-blowing moment, landed him the iconic role of Woody Boyd in the sitcom Cheers, a decision that significantly altered his life's trajectory.

During the discussion, Harrelson shared anecdotes about his experiences with prolific actors like Bill Murray and Leonardo DiCaprio, highlighting their dedication. He also candidly admitted that passing on the role in the film Jerry Maguire, which ultimately earned Tom Cruise an Oscar nomination, was a significant career misstep.

As part of the tribute, Harrelson opened a bottle of Bushmills Irish whiskey, honoring his 1997 film Welcome to Sarajevo. He reflected on his past experience filming in the Bosnian capital shortly after the siege ended, contrasting it with the city's current vibrant atmosphere and noting its remarkable metamorphosis over the years.
