In October 2025, actor and musician Joey Batey, known for his role in the hit Netflix series The Witcher, is set to release his debut novel "It's Not a Cult." Batey, now 36 years old, has been writing books since his teenage years, though this is his first to be published.
The novel follows a band with no name that plays "baffling" songs about fictional northern gods. As the band's gigs grow in popularity, they realize the world they've created may have spiraled out of their control, gaining a cult-like following. Batey began formulating the idea for this book when he was around 17 or 18 years old, but it took him years to finally put pen to paper, as he wrote several other books in the meantime.
Batey is grateful to have found the right publisher in Bloomsbury and Raven Books to bring this unconventional story to readers. While many may know him for his acting and music, Batey has always considered writing his first love, and he's excited for fans to discover this new side of his creative talents.
