Fans eagerly awaiting George RR Martin's next novel, The Winds of Winter, will be disappointed as its release this year has been officially denied. Bantam Books, the US publisher of the Song of Ice and Fire series, has refuted online speculation, confirming that rumors about a leaked publication date are false. The author has previously expressed that he is "struggling" with the completion of the book, admitting that the writing process is becoming increasingly difficult.

Martin has described The Winds of Winter as the "curse of my life," acknowledging that the book is significantly delayed. He attributes the delays to his involvement with numerous other projects, including novellas focusing on characters Dunk and Egg, who are featured in the recent Game of Thrones spin-off series.
