Wilford Lloyd "Bud" Baumes, a significant figure in television production, died last month at the age of 86. Baumes was the creative force behind the development of ABC's enduring series, "The Love Boat," and also served as an executive producer for the popular superhero drama "Wonder Woman."
Born on November 24, 1939, Baumes embarked on his career in show business in the early 1970s, following his service in the U.S. Navy. His early work included contributions to telefilms and serving as an associate to the executive producer of the sitcom "Bridget Loves Bernie."
Baumes' development of "The Love Boat," inspired by a cruise hostess' memoir and patterned after "Love, American Style," debuted in September 1977. The show, focusing on the crew and passengers of a cruise ship, became a primetime staple for nine years.
He is survived by his nephew, niece, and their families. The family has requested that donations be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.
