A new indie game, Wild Blue Skies, reminiscent of the classic Star Fox series, has launched on PlayStation 5. Developed by Chuhai Labs and published by Balor Games, this title draws heavy inspiration from 90s arcade rail shooters. It is now available for purchase on the PlayStation Store for $14.99.
The arrival of Wild Blue Skies follows the recent spotlight on Star Fox, with a remake of Star Fox 64 released for the Switch 2. Despite mixed initial reactions to its art style, the Star Fox remake's physical edition became the top-selling game in the UK.
Wild Blue Skies offers players an alternative on multiple platforms, including PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam, for a considerably lower price than its Nintendo counterpart. The game features an anthropomorphic canine pilot named Bowie Stray leading the Blue Bombers on a mission.
Chuhai Labs was founded by Giles Goddard, who previously worked on the original Star Fox game with Nintendo. The game was initially developed as Wild Blue before being renamed. Reviews for Wild Blue Skies have been mixed to mostly positive, with the PS5 version holding a 4.33-star rating and the Steam port at 58% positive.
Additionally, another Star Fox-inspired game, Fright Train, is set to launch on Steam on September 15. This survival horror roguelite features a canine paranormal specialist.
