Wicker Man Sparks Sex Questions on TikTok

Audiences are intrigued by the first look at Alexander Skarsgård portraying a man constructed entirely from wicker in the upcoming film, Wicker. The movie's unusual premise, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year, involves a lonely fisherwoman, played by Olivia Colman, who enlists a basketmaker, portrayed by Peter Dinklage, to craft her a husband. This wicker man's arrival in the village ignites fascination and jealousy among the locals.

The recent release of the film's first trailer has amplified public interest, especially on TikTok, where it has garnered millions of views. The online response includes discussions about the film's unique concept and humorous content, with many users creating comedic videos. Even official TikTok accounts have joined the conversation, responding to fan requests for a 4DX release.

The enthusiasm mirrors the 'book boyfriend' phenomenon popular on BookTok, where readers embrace fantastical and morally complex characters. The wicker husband fits this trend, appealing to audiences drawn to mysterious, otherworldly male leads with romantic undertones. For those eager for the film's theatrical release, several romantasy books offer similar themes of mythical men and magical worlds.

Wicker is inspired by Ursula Wills-Jones' short story "The Wicker Husband." This literary origin predates the current social media frenzy and details an outcast woman's request to a basketmaker for a companion. The short story itself is not readily available for purchase online at this time.
