Wicker Husband: Olivia Colman's Wild Rom-Com

The upcoming film "Wicker" is generating significant online buzz, with many labeling it as 2026's most unusual romantic comedy. Its trailer has sparked a wave of memes and humorous discussions across social media platforms, even drawing attention from brands like Ikea. Lead actress Olivia Colman expressed surprise at the widespread reaction, noting that Alexander Skarsgård's portrayal as a "wicker husband" in a unique outfit has captured public imagination.

The film's plot centers on a solitary fisherwoman, played by Colman, who, tired of being single, hires a basketmaker to create a partner from wicker. Skarsgård appears as this life-sized, wicker companion, who proves to be an attentive and passionate partner, leading to jealousy among other village women. The ensemble cast includes Peter Dinklage as the basket weaver, Elizabeth Debicki as the tailor's wife, and Richard E. Grant as the village doctor.

According to Colman, the film's appeal lies in its originality and its ability to offer escapism and fantasy, which resonates with audiences seeking magical experiences. Co-star Elizabeth Debicki agrees that Skarsgård's unique role is a major draw, while Skarsgård himself credits the costume designers for the character's impact and described the filming of intimate scenes as "super fun."

Based on Ursula Wills-Jones' short story, "The Wicker Husband," the movie has received mixed reviews, with The Guardian awarding it two stars while The Hollywood Reporter called it "a warming, sometimes poignant pleasure." Beyond the viral sensation, the film delves into deeper themes such as challenging gender roles and breaking societal norms, offering a gentle commentary on marriage and community traditions.
