Director Jon M. Chu has shared insights into the creative decisions behind "Wicked: For Good," specifically regarding the portrayal of Dorothy. Chu explained that from the outset, the intention was not to show Dorothy's face, even though some scenes featuring her likeness were filmed and subsequently cut.
The decision stemmed from a desire to keep the focus on the central female characters, Glinda and Elphaba, as originally intended by the stage musical. Chu noted that showing Dorothy's face, even in deleted scenes, consistently proved to be a distraction from the main narrative thread.
Instead, Dorothy's presence is conveyed through subtle cues. This includes her silhouette during auditions, glimpses of her dangling feet, and her brief interactions with Glinda and other "Wizard of Oz" characters, all framed from the witches' perspective.
