The announcement was made during her final performance as Roxie Hart in the Broadway production of Chicago on Sunday, May 3, 2026. Leavitt playfully referenced her exit during the show, pointing to a newspaper headline in character. This news was further corroborated by her fellow cast members, Layla Taylor and Demi Engemann, who posted supportive comments on social media, signaling her exit from the Hulu show.

Leavitt's decision to leave "Secret Lives" follows her successful engagements on "Dancing With the Stars" and her Broadway role. Amidst reports of production pauses for "Secret Lives" due to an alleged domestic dispute involving cast members, Leavitt had previously expressed uncertainty about the show's future. She indicated in an interview with Interview magazine that she had been auditioning for scripted television roles during her time on Broadway.
