Summary
- BAFTA-winning actress confronted SNL over a parody sketch
- Sketch mocked her character's appearance, which she finds exhausting
- Actress says speaking up was "breaking a pattern" of not standing up to bullies

In a recent interview, BAFTA-winning actress Lou Wood, known for her roles in the hit shows "The White Lotus" and "Sex Education," opened up about her decision to confront a controversial SNL sketch that parodied her character.
The April sketch, which was a parody of a potential third season of "The White Lotus" set in Thailand, featured cast member Sarah Sherman portraying Wood's character Chelsea with a pair of exaggerated buck teeth. This came after Wood had expressed her exhaustion with constantly discussing her own teeth.
Reflecting on the incident, Wood told BBC News that she chose to speak out and share her feelings with her followers on Instagram, saying the sketch was "mean and unfunny." She explained that this was a conscious choice to "break a pattern" of not standing up to bullies, something she had struggled with in the past.
"No matter what chaos came from it, I'm still happy for me and my personal journey that I said something," Wood said. She revealed that she had received apologies from SNL at the time of the sketch's airing.
Wood is currently promoting her upcoming role in the BBC drama "Film Club" and has a feature film, "Anxious People," co-starring Angelina Jolie and Jason Segel, in the works.
