Creator Mike White is once again writing and directing the new season, which will introduce a fresh ensemble of hotel guests and staff. Laura Dern joined the cast after Helena Bonham Carter's departure from the production. HBO stated Carter's character was not aligning on set and the role was being rewritten and recast.
