White Lotus Recasting Shakes Up Season 4
7 May
Summary
- Aleksei role recast after actor's Ukraine war stance controversy.
- Chloe's character aged up, leading to an actress replacement.
- Helena Bonham Carter's planned season 4 role was scrapped.

The popular HBO anthology series, The White Lotus, has seen notable shifts in its cast over the years, including significant recasting for its upcoming seasons. These changes, particularly for Season 4, have involved both actor replacements and character redevelopments.
One prominent recast involved the character Aleksei. Miloš Biković was initially announced but was later dropped by HBO in February 2024 due to his alleged support for Russia amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Julian Kostov was subsequently cast in the role, a decision Biković criticized as an attack on artistic freedom.
Another change occurred with the character Chloe. Francesca Corney was originally cast, but Charlotte Le Bon took over the role approximately one month after production began in February 2024. This decision was reportedly made because the creative team sought an older actress for the part.
Additionally, plans for Helena Bonham Carter in Season 4 were altered. News broke in April 2026 that her character had been scrapped, with Laura Dern joining the series in a newly developed role. HBO stated that the original character conceived for Bonham Carter did not align with the show's direction, expressing regret but hoping to collaborate on future projects.
