In November 2025, New York's DOC NYC, the city's premiere nonfiction film festival, is set to return with an eclectic lineup that promises something for documentary lovers of all stripes. The festival, for which IndieWire serves as a Supporting Media Partner, has announced its main slate for the 2025 edition.
The festival will open with the U.S. premiere of "Whistle," a documentary that delves into the world of competitive whistling, and close with the New York premiere of "Ask E. Jean," which chronicles the singular life of advice columnist-turned-Donald Trump adversary E. Jean Carroll. Other notable titles include "If These Walls Could Rock," a film about the legendary Sunset Marquis hotel in Los Angeles, and "King Hamlet," an intimate documentary about actor Oscar Isaac's preparation to play Hamlet on the New York stage.
According to DOC NYC artistic director Jaie Laplante, the films in this year's official selection "speak to urgent global, national, and personal matters," illuminating "shared humanity" through the visions of their filmmakers.
