Seven screenplays that received Academy Award nominations have been recognized by the WGA, though some were disqualified due to the guild's specific eligibility criteria.
The Best Adapted Screenplay category features a rare alignment with the Oscars, as all five Academy Award nominees are competing for the WGA award. These include 'Bugonia,' 'Frankenstein,' 'Hamnet,' 'One Battle After Another,' and 'Train Dreams.'
However, the Best Original Screenplay race saw a divergence from Oscar nominations due to WGA eligibility limitations. Only two Oscar-nominated original screenplays, 'Sinners' and 'Marty Supreme,' qualified. They were joined by 'Black Bag,' 'If I Had Legs I'd Kick You,' and 'Weapons.' Three Oscar-nominated original screenplays were ruled ineligible because their writers were not WGA members or the scripts were not penned under a collective bargaining agreement.
