Weston-super-Mare is currently celebrating its sixth annual Weston Wallz street art festival, an event that runs from July 17 to July 26. This year's festival is set to introduce 20 brand-new murals to the seaside town's already impressive collection of street art.
The festival aims to transform public spaces into vibrant canvases, with the approximately 85 existing murals spread across the town providing a rich backdrop. This year, artists are repainting five original walls and creating 15 new pieces.
Co-founder Steve Hayles highlighted that many artworks draw inspiration from Weston's identity, including its beach and seaside atmosphere. Themes such as a 'giant crab' are expected. The event is designed to be accessible and community-focused, especially engaging young people.
Beyond the visual spectacle, the festival includes workshops, guided tours, and community art projects. Hayles noted that visitors exploring the murals also discover different areas of Weston, thereby supporting local businesses. The selection of artists this year includes international and local talent, all contributing to the town's evolving artistic landscape.
