In a highly anticipated move, the Academy Museum is set to host a major retrospective exhibition titled 'The Horror Show' in 2026, showcasing thousands of film props and costumes from the archives of acclaimed director Wes Anderson. The exhibition, scheduled to run from November 21st, 2025, to July 26th, 2026, will chart the evolution of Anderson's filmmaking craft, from his early short films in the 1990s to his most recent Oscar-winning productions.
One of the centerpieces of the exhibition will be the monumental candy-pink model of the Grand Budapest Hotel, which was used to capture the building's façade for Anderson's 2014 film. Spanning over 3 meters in width, the model will be one of over 700 objects on display, including original storyboards, polaroids, sketches, and costumes worn by beloved characters.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to see stop-motion puppets, miniature models, paintings, and even Anderson's handwritten notebooks, providing a rare glimpse into the director's meticulous creative process. Highlights of the exhibition include the vending machines from Asteroid City (2023), the FENDI fur coat worn by Gwyneth Paltrow in The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), and the original stop-motion puppets used in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004).
