Entrepreneur Mo Chaudry has announced the acquisition of Barlaston Hall, a Grade I listed Georgian house in Staffordshire. The property, which includes nine acres of land and a former church, was previously owned by the iconic Wedgwood pottery firm. Chaudry and his wife Ann intend to make the hall their family home, pledging to restore its historic features, including a Georgian-style garden.
Built between 1756 and 1758 and designed by Sir Robert Taylor, Barlaston Hall served as Wedgwood's administrative headquarters before being used by the War Office during World War Two. It later became the Wedgwood Memorial College but fell into disrepair due to mining subsidence. The house was famously sold for £1 to SAVE Britain's Heritage in 1981, undergoing significant restoration.
Chaudry expressed his thrill at owning a piece of Staffordshire history with deep ties to Wedgwood, noting a personal connection as his former business, Waterworld, was also located on Wedgwood land. Beyond serving as his family home, Chaudry plans to open the grounds to the public for events and charity functions, and the former church will be available for hire.
