During the 2026 Tony Awards, Anna Wintour and Andrew Lloyd Webber surprised audiences by appearing on stage during the CATS: The Jellicle Ball performance. The esteemed duo held "Meow" and "Purr" signs, cheering on the dancers.
This musical, a reinvention of Webber's classic, is currently showing at New York City's Broadhurst Theatre and explores the city's ballroom culture. Webber shared his delight at the show's success, noting his disbelief that it would be on Broadway this year.
Reflecting on the "daring" and "original" adaptation, Webber expressed that the production possesses a "heart" which he believes T.S. Eliot would have appreciated. This marks the first Broadway revival of CATS since 2016.
Webber also mentioned his anticipation for the upcoming Evita revival, starring Rachel Zegler, which is set to debut on Broadway next spring after a successful run in London.
