Wayward Stars Recreate Iconic Sixth Sense Scene in Late-Night Homage

In a delightful behind-the-scenes moment, the stars of the hit Netflix miniseries Wayward have recreated one of the most memorable scenes from the 1999 classic The Sixth Sense. Wayward creator and star Mae Martin, nailing the hand movements of Toni Collette's character Lynn, shared the amusing recreation on Instagram, calling it a "homage to our queen and hero" Collette.

The scene in question involves the emotional exchange between Haley Joel Osment's young Cole Sear and his mother, Lynn, in which the boy discloses that he is often visited by ghosts. Martin and her co-star Sydney Topliffe, who plays a troubled teen in Wayward, perfectly captured the poignant moment, with Topliffe delivering Osment's lines and Martin channeling Collette's heartbreaking performance.

Collette, who stars in Wayward as the enigmatic headmaster of an academy for troubled teens, was thrilled by the homage, praising the recreation as "phenomenal" in the comments. The Wayward team filmed the scene at 2 a.m. in the "freezing cold" during a "crucial" moment for the show, according to Martin.

Wayward, which follows a transgender police officer who uncovers dark secrets in a small town, has been a surprise hit for Netflix, recently topping the platform's English-language list with 8.2 million views. Collette's role as the sinister headmaster has been widely praised, with the actress revealing that she initially did not realize The Sixth Sense was a horror film during its production.
