Summary
- Wattpad and Espotlight partner for Spanish-language film and TV.
- Deal grants Espotlight first look at digital-native stories.
- Focus on developing projects for Spanish-speaking and global markets.

Wattpad Productions and Espotlight have entered into a significant first-look deal aimed at developing Spanish-language film and television adaptations based on Wattpad webnovels. This agreement provides Espotlight with priority access to a rich pipeline of digital-native intellectual property that already possesses dedicated readerships.
The partnership will focus on jointly identifying and developing projects tailored for Spanish-speaking markets, as well as for wider global appeal. This new pact follows their successful collaboration on the film 'Boulevard,' which was based on Flor M. Salvador's Wattpad series and has garnered over 160 million reads. The film achieved theatrical releases across Spain, Latin America, and the U.S. in April 2026, and is now available worldwide on Prime Video.
Espotlight founder and CEO Anxo Rodríguez expressed enthusiasm for the expanded collaboration, highlighting 'Boulevard's' success and emphasizing the goal of creating adaptations that resonate with existing fans while attracting new audiences. Spanish-language fiction is a highly popular category on Wattpad, offering valuable data on readership and fan engagement to guide development decisions.
Webtoon Productions has a strong track record with Spanish-language adaptations, including the 'Through My Window' franchise for Netflix and 'Follow My Voice' for Prime Video. David Madden, president of Webtoon Productions, noted the immense global popularity of Hispanic entertainment and the growing demand for these stories. This deal with Espotlight is expected to further capitalize on the vast and popular collection of Spanish-language titles available on Wattpad.
