10 Oct
Summary
- 'Minecraft' sequel announced, slated for July 2027 release
- First film grossed nearly $1 billion globally
- Director Jared Hess returning to helm the follow-up

In a major announcement, Warner Bros. has revealed plans for a sequel to the hit film 'A Minecraft Movie.' The follow-up is currently in development and is scheduled to hit theaters on July 23, 2027, approximately two years after the release of the first movie.
The original 'Minecraft' film, based on the popular video game, was a massive box office success, grossing nearly $957 million globally. It became the second-highest-grossing Hollywood film of 2025, trailing only Disney's 'Lilo & Stitch.' The movie's impressive performance helped ignite a remarkable turnaround for Warner Bros. after a series of misfires earlier in the year.
Jared Hess, who directed the first 'Minecraft' movie, will return to helm the sequel. Hess and Chris Galletta are co-writing the screenplay, promising another adventure in the beloved cubic world. The producers for the second installment include Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans Olafsson, and Jason Momoa, who starred in the original film.
