'War 2' Flops Despite Star-Studded Cast, Fails to Replicate Predecessor's Success

Summary
- 'War 2' underperforms, collects only ₹365 crore globally
- Sequel fails to match the ₹475 crore earnings of the original 'War' (2019)
- 'Mahavtar Narsimha' emerges as a surprise hit, making ₹250 crore on a smaller budget

In August 2025, the highly anticipated sequel 'War 2' hit theaters, clashing with Rajinikanth's 'Coolie' at the box office. While the film opened to a strong start, its momentum quickly faded, and it has now been declared a flop by trade analysts.
According to the latest box office numbers, 'War 2' managed to collect only ₹365 crore globally, a far cry from the ₹475 crore earned by the original 'War' in 2019. Despite the presence of popular stars like Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, the film failed to captivate audiences and translate their star power into box office success.
Interestingly, during the same period, another film, 'Mahavtar Narsimha', emerged as a surprise hit, making ₹250 crore at the domestic box office on a smaller budget. This further highlighted the challenges faced by 'War 2' in connecting with the audience and justifying its enormous budget of ₹400 crore.
The film's underwhelming performance, both in India and overseas, has been a disappointment for the makers, who were hoping to replicate the success of the first installment in the YRF Spy Universe. With less than ₹100 crore coming from the southern markets, even Jr NTR's massive following couldn't lift the sequel to the heights of its predecessor.
