Animated Doc 'Waltz With Bashir' Gets Restoration

MK2 Films has secured worldwide distribution rights for Ari Folman's seminal animated documentary, "Waltz With Bashir." The acquisition follows an agreement with Bridgit Folman Film Gang. This groundbreaking 2008 film, which uniquely fused animation with documentary, is set to receive a new 4K restoration. The restored version is expected to premiere later this year, offering audiences a fresh look at the powerful narrative.

"Waltz With Bashir" originally premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008. It achieved significant critical acclaim, winning the Golden Globe for best foreign language film and earning an Academy Award nomination. These accolades marked a historic moment, as it was the first animated feature to receive such a distinction. The film chronicles a former Israeli soldier's journey to confront suppressed recollections from his service during the 1982 Lebanon War. Its profound exploration of memory, trauma, and the lasting impact of conflict has solidified its place in cinema history, recognized in prestigious lists like the Guardian's '100 Best Films of the 21st Century'.
