Fleming Island Library is organizing a volunteer painting session on Saturday to craft floating buoy lanterns. These lanterns are destined for a significant national art installation in Washington, D.C., marking the United States' 250th anniversary.
The project, titled "America Shines on The National Mall," is spearheaded by Portraits of Hope and the Freedom 250 initiative. It anticipates participation from thousands of volunteers nationwide, culminating in a unique visual exhibition at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
The event welcomes adults and youth aged 8 and older, with accommodations for younger children. Registration is required via the Clay County Public Library website. The exhibition featuring approximately 3,000 artworks by American youth is scheduled for a four-week run starting this October.
