Mancunian Singer Becomes Viral 'Email Guy'

A new romantic comedy set in Manchester follows indie singer-songwriter Owen, who becomes a divisive viral figure. After a chance encounter with Emily at the student union, a missed digit in her phone number leads Owen to post flyers and email hundreds of Emilies at the university in a bid to find her.

This quest inadvertently turns him into "email guy," a meme debated online as either creepy or romantic. Social media reactions to his earnest song for Emily further fuel the frenzy, with some comparing him to Ed Sheeran on a crime show and others coining the hashtag #ratboysummer.

One of the Emilies, a psychology student, uses Owen as a case study for her thesis on love being temporary insanity. The film features a charming cast, with standout performances from supporting characters and a humorous turn by Emily's ego-driven professor. Notably, Owen bears a resemblance to a young Liam Gallagher, and one of the Emilies resembles Taylor Swift.
