- AI memes can score higher in humor and shareability than human-made ones.
- The meme's perceived cinematic past adds to its mystery and appeal.
A viral Rumpelstiltskin meme, often seen dancing to music on social media, has sparked widespread confusion. Many users mistook the AI-generated clip for footage from the 1987 film Rumpelstiltskin. This misconception is fueled by the meme's realistic, throwback aesthetic.
Experts suggest that the meme's perceived cinematic past contributes to its intrigue. The AI-generated nature does not seem to detract from its entertainment value, with some studies indicating AI memes can be more humorous and shareable. The original meme originated from a Russian Instagram post promoting AI filmmaking.
Some viewers experience a "Mandela effect," a false memory, recalling the meme from years ago. This highlights the convincing nature of AI-generated content and the challenge in distinguishing reality from digital creations. While enjoying AI entertainment is common, misrepresenting its origin raises questions about authenticity and trust.
