JuVee Productions, led by Viola Davis and Julius Tennon, is set to adapt the Afro-fantasy graphic novel 'The Untamed: A Sinner's Prayer.' They are collaborating with Homeworld Entertainment for this project based on Sebastian A. Jones's indie franchise.
Jones, who has managed the franchise for a decade, will write the script and direct the adaptation. The story unfolds in the fantasy world of Asunda, a unique blend of Medieval European and African history. It centers on 'The Stranger,' who has seven days to avenge his family's murder or face dire consequences.
The Untamed has achieved indie hit status through direct fan engagement, including successful Kickstarter campaigns that have raised over $631,602 since 2015. Jones aims to deliver a "badass vengeance tale" within a cinematic drama, drawing inspiration from Spaghetti Westerns and Kurosawa epics set in a dangerous fantasy landscape.
Davis, who previously wrote the foreword for Jones's 'Niobe: She is Life' graphic novel, expressed excitement about the inclusive fantasy world and its potential global resonance. The adaptation promises a compelling narrative, featuring a Black female hero, Niobe, who first appeared alongside The Stranger.
