A cinema projectionist's private collection of nearly 100 vintage Hollywood movie posters, accumulated over four decades, is set to go under the hammer. The artworks showcase legendary actors such as Clint Eastwood, Audrey Hepburn, and Raquel Welch, representing a significant piece of film history.
The collection features numerous British Quad posters from the 1960s and 70s, the large display sheets once used to promote films outside cinemas. Among the highlights is a poster for the inaugural James Bond film, 'Dr. No' (1962), with auctioneers estimating its value between £5,000 and £8,000.
Additional Bond film posters from the era, including 'From Russia With Love' and 'Thunderball,' are also part of the sale. The projectionist, Robin Langford, began his career in cinema at The Ritz in Bristol in the late 1950s, continuing his passion for film display throughout his service in the Army and subsequent work in various cinemas.
