Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has turned his attention to the delayed release of his political action drama, 'Jana Nayagan.' He has directed producer Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions to return to Chennai to focus on resolving the film's release issues.
The film, slated as Vijay's farewell project, has been stalled since December due to challenges with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Concerns were raised about scenes potentially hurting public sentiments and its political content, especially during the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections where Vijay's party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), participated.
Following the CBFC's initial flagging, the makers pursued legal avenues for a censor certificate, which led to a postponement from its planned January 9 release. They later withdrew their case and submitted the film to a revising committee, but no official update on certification has emerged. A proposed May 8 release also failed to materialize.
Further complications arose when an HD print of 'Jana Nayagan' was leaked online on April 9. This incident prompted the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Police to arrest nine individuals, including key accused. The film's editor, Pradeep E Ragav, was suspended by the editors' association for working with an unauthorized freelance editor.
