A theatre in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, has been subjected to a barrage of abusive messages from fans of actor Vijay. Despite a history of screening Vijay's films for over 15 years, the theatre management attempted to reassure disappointed fans. They acknowledged the frustration of not seeing their favorite star's film but appealed for a positive approach. "Jana Nayagan," reportedly Vijay's last film before entering politics, was scheduled for release on January 9. "Parasakthi" was set to release on January 10.

The dispute highlights the passionate, and sometimes extreme, reactions within fan communities. While the theatre management pleaded for a more respectful celebration of cinema, some fans expressed their intent to boycott the theatre.
