Vigil Heads North: Arctic Murder Mystery Unfolds

The acclaimed crime drama Vigil is set to return with its third series, featuring the lead detectives, Amy Silva and Kirsten Longacre. The new season takes the investigation to the Arctic, centering on a murder discovered at a remote research station. This Arctic setting will form the backdrop for a narrative exploring contemporary global issues, including the impact of melting ice caps, competition for natural resources, and potential energy conflicts.

The upcoming installment will consist of six parts. Silva and Longacre will be tasked with solving the shooting of a British operative involved in a covert special forces mission. The BBC has indicated that the detectives must not only apprehend the culprit but also de-escalate a potential international dispute arising from a land grab for energy and resources in the polar region. Both their professional reputations and personal relationship will be at stake.

Filming for this new season has recently concluded in the Arctic landscapes of Svalbard. Several familiar faces are confirmed to return alongside the lead actresses, including Gary Lewis as Detective Superintendent Robertson. The series is slated for release on BBC1 and iPlayer later this year.
