Vidya Balan is currently captivating audiences in cinemas as Badi Begum in Riteish Deshmukh's historical drama, 'Raja Shivaji'.
In this bilingual film, Balan portrays the wife of Mohammed Adil Shah. However, the role was initially offered to actress Tabu. Due to prior commitments, Tabu was unable to accept the part, paving the way for Vidya Balan.
Balan eagerly accepted the 'challenging' role in the Marathi and Hindi production. This is not the first time Balan has stepped into a role previously considered by Tabu.
For 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3', Tabu also opted out, citing a lack of challenge in repeating her previous performance. Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit were then cast for that film.
Directed by Riteish Deshmukh, 'Raja Shivaji' features an extensive cast, including Sanjay Dutt and Abhishek Bachchan. The film was released on May 1, 2026.
