Los Angeles-based Spooky Pictures and Image Nation Abu Dhabi have secured rights to the acclaimed found-footage horror anthology series, "V/H/S." This strategic acquisition is set to fuel the production of future installments within the popular franchise, which first premiered at Sundance in 2012.
The partnership between Spooky Pictures, led by genre veterans Steven Schneider and Roy Lee, and the UAE's Image Nation marks a significant step. Image Nation's chief content officer, Ben Ross, emphasized the opportunity to support emerging talent worldwide, particularly from the Arab region, in the genre space.
The "V/H/S" series has a robust history, launching the careers of directors like Adam Wingard and Ti West. It has evolved through various formats, including viral video-focused and year-specific anthologies, and has spawned feature films such as "SiREN" and "Kids vs. Aliens."
Producers highlighted the franchise's consistent quality and growing popularity as key factors in its success. They also noted that shorts created for "V/H/S" can serve as a springboard for potential feature film development, offering an incredible platform for new filmmakers.
This collaboration follows previous successes for Spooky Pictures and Image Nation, including "Late Night With the Devil" and "The Vile." Their upcoming slate features supernatural horror titles like "Hokum" and "The Shepherd."
