Veteran RTS CEO Theresa Wise to Retire in 2026

In November 2025, Theresa Wise, the long-serving CEO of the influential Royal Television Society (RTS), announced her plans to retire in 2026. Wise has been in charge of the British TV organization for well over a decade, overseeing a period of growth and innovation.

"After almost 13 unforgettable years as CEO of the Royal Television Society, I have made the decision to retire from full time work," said Wise. Under her leadership, the RTS has solidified its position as a vital part of the UK's world-leading television and streaming media landscape. Wise is credited with strengthening the society's educational programs, member engagement, and event offerings, which continue to set the "gold standard" across the industry.

RTS Chair Jane Turton praised Wise's "dynamism, passion, and commitment" in developing the organization. "It has been a pleasure working with her as she has grown and developed the Society, launching new initiatives like the Mini MBA, strengthening the Bursary Scheme and constantly innovating and delivering the highest quality across all of the RTS activities," Turton said.

Wise's departure comes during a period of significant change in the UK TV industry, with the recent exits of BBC leadership and the search for a new CEO at Channel 4. Her retirement in 2026 will mark the end of an era for the RTS and the British broadcasting landscape.
