On October 31, 2025, the Australian broadcasting community was saddened by the passing of veteran presenter Leighton Archer at the age of 50 following a stroke. Archer had a celebrated 30-year radio career, beginning as one of the first volunteer announcers at Port Stephens FM in Nelson Bay, north of Newcastle, where he made his debut broadcast in April 1993.
Over the years, Archer went on to host Breakfast on 2CA in Canberra and served as the station's program director. He also worked for the Australian Traffic Network and at regional stations including 2MO and Triple G in Gunnedah, as well as 2NUR FM, 2GO/2GGG, and 2HD. Outside the studio, Archer was known for his love of live concerts, cooking, and playing golf.
Archer's funeral, held on November 14, 2025, was attended by many of Australia's most recognizable radio stars, including veteran Sydney presenter Trevor Sinclair. His colleagues and fans expressed their heartbreak and fondly remembered his contributions to the Australian radio industry.
