In a surprising announcement, veteran actor Joe Pantoliano, 74, has revealed that he will be appearing in Marvel's upcoming Wonder Man television series. Pantoliano, who has been working as a news writer at Entertainment Weekly since 2022, made the revelation during a Matrix reunion panel at New York Comic Con on Sunday.
While Pantoliano did not disclose the specifics of his role, he expressed his excitement about the project, stating that he had a "blast" filming the Yahya Abdul-Mateen II-led superhero series. Pantoliano also shared an interesting tidbit, noting that his co-star Sir Ben Kingsley never once referred to him by his widely used nickname "Joey Pants" throughout the production.
This is not Pantoliano's first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He previously portrayed the character of Ben Urich in the 2003 Daredevil film starring Ben Affleck. It remains unclear whether he will be reprising that role or taking on a new character in the Wonder Man series.
The Disney+ series is set to explore the journey of an actor, Simon Williams, played by Abdul-Mateen, as he auditions for the lead role in an upcoming Wonder Man reboot. Kingsley's character, Trevor Slattery, will accompany Simon on this quest, with the two forming a fast friendship over their shared passion for acting.
