Veteran Activists and Artists Honored with Prestigious Rajyotsava Awards

In the Mysuru region and Malnad area of Karnataka, several individuals have been recognized with the prestigious Rajyotsava awards for their outstanding contributions to various fields. Rajendra Chenni Chenni, a retired English professor from Kuvempu University, is being honored for his extensive work in literature, criticism, and environmental activism. Chenni has authored numerous books in Kannada and English and has been actively involved in people's movements, including protests against mining and efforts to save the Tunga River.

Another recipient is Konanduru Lingappa, a veteran politician from Shivamogga district, who is known for his simplicity and commitment to social causes. Lingappa was a prominent figure in the Samajwadi (socialist) movement in Karnataka, particularly in the Malnad region, and worked tirelessly for the welfare of the poor and marginalized.

The awards also recognize the contributions of Mime Ramesh, a distinguished theatre practitioner from Mangaluru. Ramesh, who was inspired by Yakshagana from a young age, has been a force in the theatre scene for nearly five decades, working as an actor, director, choreographer, and mentor. He has collaborated with legendary directors and founded the GPIER troupe in Mysuru, training hundreds of budding artists.
