The burgeoning vertical drama industry is set to host its first-ever live awards ceremony, the Vertical Drama Love Fan Awards, on April 23. This inaugural event will take place at the El Portal Theatre in Los Angeles, marking a significant milestone for the microdrama format.
Unlike many industry accolades, these awards are entirely fan-driven. Jen Cooper, the independent creator behind the @VerticalDramaLove platform, established the awards with the unique principle that public voting alone decides nominations, shortlists, and winners. This approach emphasizes the vital role of audience support in the vertical drama ecosystem.
Participation has already demonstrated a striking global reach, with voters from over 100 countries across six continents casting their ballots. To ensure integrity, each voter is limited to one submission, with robust monitoring systems in place.
FlareFlow, a leading microdrama streaming platform with 33 million users, is the presenting partner for the event. While FlareFlow has no influence on the awards themselves, its sponsorship introduces the new FlareFlow Spark Award, recognizing creative risk-taking in storytelling, structure, casting, or genre.
Six sponsors, including BuzzFeed Studios and Eris Talent Agency, are supporting the ceremony, indicating the growing commercial viability of vertical drama. The event aims to celebrate resonant shows, characters, and performances, drawing on global fan stories and highlight footage.
