Norwegian filmmaker Nataša Urban is set to release her new project, "Vagina Dentata," a genre-bending film exploring the often-unspoken aspects of motherhood and postnatal depression. The film uses horror and darkly comic elements to convey the psychological pressures new mothers face, stemming from Urban's own experiences and the dissonance between societal expectations and reality.
The production is currently 60% financed, with significant support from the Norwegian Film Institute. Renowned Romanian editor Dana Bunescu, known for her work on award-winning films, is attached to the project. The filmmakers are actively seeking co-production partners in France, Germany, and Hungary, as well as further financing and distribution connections.
"Vagina Dentata" is being presented at the Nordic Co-Production Market in Haugesund, Norway, as part of the Norwegian International Film Festival. This platform is intended to secure remaining financing and expand the film's European co-production structure. Producer Ingvil Giske expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the need for diverse stories about motherhood and the value of the Haugesund market for forging collaborations.
